Pedicure Keeps Chipping? Is a Dry Gel Pedicure Right for You?
By Lola’s Beauty Salon & Spa | July 21, 2026

We hear this a lot, and we love when the fix is simple: “my cuticles have never looked better, ” like one client told us after we took our time with the details. If your pedicure chips after a few days, a Dry Gel Pedicure is usually the best next step because the gel is cured under LED for a hard, chip-resistant finish. It’s a strong match for Long Island City schedules, especially if you want smudge-free toes that stay put through subway commutes, weekend plans, and sandal season.
Dry gel is not for everyone, though. If you have active toenail fungus, open wounds on your toes, or unmanaged diabetes or circulation issues, we’ll steer you toward safer options and ask you to get medical clearance first.
Why your pedicure chips so fast (and why it feels personal)
Chipping on toes usually isn’t about you “doing something wrong.” It’s often a mix of how flexible the nail is, how much friction your toes get in shoes, and how well the polish layers bond. Regular polish stays soft for a while, so even if it looks dry on top, it can still dent or drag under socks or tight sneakers. Then the edges start lifting, and once a corner lifts, it catches on everything.
And in Long Island City, a lot of people are moving fast. Court Square and Hunters Point commuters are walking, hopping on the subway, heading to Midtown, switching shoes, and squeezing life in after work. If you need a pedicure that doesn’t chip during that real-life routine, we want you in something that sets hard before you leave our chair.
Quick reality check: If you’re getting chips at day 2 or 3, it’s usually a durability problem, not a color problem. Gel solves durability by curing into a firm coating.
How our Dry Gel Pedicure fights chipping, step by step
A Dry Gel Pedicure is designed to prevent early chipping because gel is cured under LED. That curing step matters. Instead of waiting around hoping polish “sets, ” the gel hardens into a chip-resistant finish before you put your feet back in shoes.
Our signature Dry Gel Pedicure is 120 minutes and $90, and we use that time for the things that actually impact wear: thorough cuticle work, clean shaping, buffing, and smoothing calluses so the polish isn’t clinging to rough edges. We’ll remove your previous coating or gel polish if it was done in our studio, then we trim and shape toenails, do detailed cuticle care, buff the nail surface, treat calluses, soften heels and soles, and finish with gel polish in your choice of color. Just so it’s clear, acrylic removal isn’t included.
“Always do a beautiful job! My nails last 5-6 weeks even with my hands being in a lot of water.”
one of our regulars
How long it tends to last on toes
With proper care, dry gel on toenails typically lasts 2 to 6 weeks. Toes usually hold gel better than hands because they see less daily soaking and bending. The biggest things that shorten wear are picking at edges, very tight shoes that rub the free edge, and hot soaking right after your appointment.
Dry gel vs. regular polish (the honest tradeoff)
- Dry gel: LED-cured, hard finish, usually the best pick if chipping is your main complaint.
- Regular polish: easier removal, but it stays vulnerable while it air-dries and tends to chip sooner for active schedules.
- Other options: If you need care focused on foot health concerns, a medical-style pedicure approach can be a better route. If you want added structure, an overlay style service can make sense on some nails. We’ll talk it through with you in person so you’re not guessing.
Dry Gel Pedicure in Long Island City: who it’s best for (and who we’ll steer elsewhere)
Dry gel is a great fit if you want gel pedicure toes that are fully set when you walk out. It’s popular with Court Square and Hunters Point clients who prefer evenings after work, gallery openings, or waterfront plans, because you don’t have to baby your toes on the way home.
It’s also great if you’re tired of bringing inspiration photos and not getting what you asked for. Our team is used to working from a picture and matching the shape and finish, and we pay attention to the small stuff like clean cuticles and crisp edges.
We won’t do dry gel if you have active toenail fungus, open wounds on the toes, or unmanaged diabetes or circulation issues. In those cases, we’ll ask you to get medical clearance and point you toward safer care first.
Quick prep + aftercare that helps your long-lasting pedicure actually last
Before your appointment
- Trim nails if you like them shorter. If you’re unsure, leave them and we’ll shape them in a way that fits your toes and shoes.
- Arrive with clean, dry feet. Lotion is fine, but heavy oils right before gel can affect bonding.
- Tell us if you currently have gel on your toes and where it was done. Our service includes removal of previous coating or gel polish from our studio.
Aftercare for the first 24 hours
- Skip hot baths and long soaking for 24 hours. It helps the coating keep its tight seal at the edges.
- Wear open-toe sandals the same day if you can. Less shoe friction means fewer lifted edges.
- Don’t pick at a corner. If something catches, let us know and we’ll help you handle it before it turns into a full peel.
Why Long Island City clients stick with our nail team (and how to grab your spot)
When you’re coming in for a pedicure that doesn’t chip, the little habits matter. Our team is known for taking our time and checking the details. People tell us we remember how they like their nails shaped and even their previous colors. That consistency is a big reason long-wear services actually look good for weeks, not just on day one.
And yes, we’re in Long Island City, so we see plenty of neighbors coming from Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Greenpoint, and Midtown Manhattan. If your schedule is tight, a dry gel pedicure makes the most sense because you leave fully set and ready to move.
Want us to help you choose the right option? Tell us how fast your pedicures usually chip, what shoes you’re in most days, and if you’re coming in for an event. We’ll point you to Dry Gel if it’s the right match, or we’ll be honest if another approach makes more sense.
